About the Artist, Janie McGinn
Throughout her life Janie McGinn has always aspired to be an accomplished artist. Early in her years her acceptance and four-year scholarship to attend Chouinard Art Institute launched that dream. At that time Chouinard, one of the top five schools in the nation, was purchased by Walt Disney, merged with the Los Angeles Conservatory of Music and is known today as CalArts. The atmosphere and immense creativity on campus was inspirational and left Janie with a lifelong desire to pursue her dreams as an artist.
Janie McGinn celebrated her 50th year as a Graphic Designer after opening her own design and print brokering business, DrawingBoard Studios, in 1987. Her business attained the honors of one of the 50 Top Growing Businesses in the Sacramento region for three consecutive years. In 2001 she merged with another larger printing business and continues to enjoy servicing the same loyal clients to this day.
Currently Janie works on developing her painting skills in oils. In 1997, she had the opportunity to travel to France and attend a workshop studying plein-air painting of the lavender and sunflower fields of Provence. This trip included a visit to Giverny, Monet’s Gardens, which has inspired many of Janie’s painting today. Currently Janie is painting entirely in oils with a palette knife on gesso board surfaces.
