The Blue Wing
Gallery is pleased to host "Taking Shape" a solo exhibition
featuring exciting new works by ceramic artist Linda Gelfman.
This exhibit is a mix of sophisticated and humorous sculptures
each one rich in personality. Linda's mastery of medium is
demonstrated in the attention to detail; the interesting variations
in textures and the depth of color achieved in her glazes. These
latest pieces mark her as an artist worthy of serious collectors,
however her down to earth attitude and affordable prices make her an
artist with overall appeal.
When asked about her inspiration
or her approach to creating her artwork, she easily responds "I
create what feels good to my hands, my heart, my eyes and my soul.
Only to study it and revel in it when it is finished. Sitting in my
studio I wonder from where in me did this emerge? Birds, belly
dancers, bottles, cats, towering vessels of hopes, emotions, ideas,
prayers and blessings my work is the world in which I feel most at
home".
Born in Chicago Linda wanted to be a hippy...lucky for
us she became a "Mud Head" (this is a term for clay artists). Linda
studied sculpture at the University of Illinois, Champagne-Urbana.
In the late 80's she was introduced to the Northern California clay
community, which prompted her to attend graduate school at
California State University, Sacramento. For a few years Linda was
an instructor at the School of the Art Institute in Chicago.
Currently she teaches ceramics full time at American River College.
