Blue Wing Gallery will feature art by Jane Thompson
Jane is always looking for new ways to express herself artistically & musically. She also plays bass in the Jane Thompson Trio and It’s About Time 18 piece big band. Music inspires her art and visa versa. The current theme of her artwork is hope, light and music. Her preferred medium is acrylics, but has also done works in collage, water color & embroidery.
Jane has artwork in private & public collections including Father Paddy’s Irish Pub, Bob Scarlett, former Crocker Art Museum board member, Sherman Ellison, Att., Dr. Sam Wallis, Dr. Gerry Peppers, Jack Cassidy, Mickey Hart, Charles Baty & Woodland United Methodist Church. Jane has been written up in Sacramento News & Review. Some of Jane’s commissioned artwork include portraits, landscapes, abstracts, book covers, promotional material, business card design, painting on musical instruments & embroidery on clothing and accessories.
When Jane was 7 years old she was entranced watching a landscape artist paint a very large & breathtaking painting using only a 4 inch house painter’s brush. It was a lesson in freedom of expression and the magic of the brush. It is a lesson that has stuck with Jane to this day & is an ongoing source of inspiration.
In addition to the fantastic art Jane creates she is also a talented musician. The Jane Thompson Trio we also be performing for the artist reception.

Ken Billeci has been an active music educator and performer in Sacramento and throughout Northern California for the past 30 years. Ken holds an A.A. degree in Music from American River College, and he also studied classical guitar at California State University under Professor Richard Savino. Ken played guitar in the stage bands at both colleges, where he developed his skills in jazz chart reading and jazz improvisation. Ken spent 20 years teaching guitar at Jack’s House of Music, all the while performing in various bands locally. For the ten piece horn band “On Air”, he was lead guitarist and also arranged numerous horn charts. In 2006, Ken released a CD of original instrumental jazz compositions with his band, “Funky Brain” (don’t laugh!). While all members of the group on this CD (available on I-Tunes) are stellar musicians, Ken was especially pleased to have the nationally recognized drummer and clinician Mike Johnston behind the kit, who just recently graced the cover of “Modern Drummer” magazine. Ken is an endorsed artist for ZT amplifiers out of Berkeley, CA. Ken was rhythm guitarist for the Django Reinhardt inspired gypsy jazz group, “Jazz Gitan”, for whom he played hundreds of gigs throughout Northern California during 6 years of membership. Ken shares his love of music by teaching guitar, piano, bass and ukulele.
Jon Spivack is a parent, an educator and a musician who has been teaching and performing in the Sacramento area for over 25 years. He has earned a B.A. in Biological Sciences and a Master of Arts in Special Education at California State University, Sacramento. Jon enjoys teaching and sharing his love and enthusiasm of music. He has taught in a wide variety of settings, both in the classroom and as a private instructor in the studio (currently at Watermelon Music in Davis, Tim’s Music in Sacramento and in The San Juan Unified School District). Jon also co-founded Learning Quest, a company that creates and markets educational materials for students. Of the four teaching credentials he has earned, Jon credits his Multiple Subject and Adult Ed credentials for his success as a teacher. His new Jazz/Folk/Blues CD, Branching Out, is now available on CdBaby.com.
Jane Thompson has been playing bass in working bands most of her life. “Ascension”, the first band Jane was in, opened for many notable performers including Etta James, Mike Bloomfield, Hot Tuna, Meryl Saunders & Peter Yarrow. Ascension played a wide variety of musical styles including rock, funk, blues, ballads and folk. Jane was also in the country swing band “Trails End Show Band”, the Motown and 50s/60s band “Fast Stops and Car Hops” and in “CS and Company” performing old and new country, ballads and rock and roll. Most recently, Jane played with the gypsy jazz trio “Jazz Gitan” for 6 years and the Delta blues band, Dennis Johnson and the Mississippi Ramblers. She continues to play with the 18 piece big band “It’s About Time”, but especially enjoys the trio format in the Jane Thompson Trio. Jane plays string bass and electric bass and has a passion for music and performing. Jane is also an artist who enjoys painting a wide variety of subjects, including musicians and music related subjects.
